Poetry, Ecology & Mindfulness

Come and sit a spell.

The sit spots located in the Campus Garden and the Tohi Garden are created with you in mind. They are designed to help you enjoy a moment of pause...

a moment that allows you to step away from the noise, the stress, the schedules, and the deadlines...

an opportunity to center and ground yourself in this moment, in this place.

You are invited to spend some time cultivating awareness, connecting with yourself and your environment, and paying attention to the life that is all around you.

Feel free to return to these spots as often as you would like. Spend as much or as little time as feels helpful to you. Allow your senses to expand as you take in the breadth of the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Breathe. Listen. Repeat.

Pick from the topics above and explore the resources gathered for you!

Check out both spots on campus!

  • Campus Garden (above) - Located by the fence beside the garden shed mural at 1141 Polo Rd.

  • Tohi Garden (below) - Located along the path at the intersection of Wingate Rd and Faculty Dr behind Maya Angelou Residence Hall.

The mural at the Campus Garden was designed by Mary Dunlop of Forage & Roam and sponsored by the WFU Office of Wellbeing and the Office of Sustainability. The painting of the mural was a community effort during the festivities at the 2022 Spring Equinox Celebration.

The Rooted Initiative was created and designed by Anna McRay. Special thanks to Marian Trattner, Mary Dunlop, Cat Mizzi-Orrell, Nathan Peifer, Ashley Hawkins Parham, Sakina Barthe-Sukhera, Ashleigh Hala, Michelle Ford, Tomma Guastaferro, and Karl Gustafson, whose collaborative efforts made the Rooted Initiative possible!
