I am currently a senior at Wake Forest University graduating in May 2022. I am majoring in engineering and minoring in computer science and mathematics.
I have been working as a teaching assistant for a materials and mechanics course in the engineering department at Wake Forest. In this position, I evaluate coursework and serve as a resource for students in this engineering course. Working as a teaching assistant has taught me the importance of patience and has increased my appreciation for the supportive network that the university offers its students. Further, for the past 3 years, I have participated in a biomedical engineering lab as an undergraduate researcher. In this lab, I test and measure nanopores to quantify and analyze DNA and other samples to aid in oncology and disease research. Without this opportunity, I would not have acquired knowledge of research processes and biomedical engineering applications. This experience has also allowed me to excel out of my comfort zone, as the learning curve in working in such a lab is very steep.
To continue, I hold a leadership position in Wake Forest's Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter as recording secretary in which my responsibilities span over several chapter operations. Further, I serve as the president of the Girls Who Code chapter at Wake Forest as an effort to support fellow computer science and engineering students at the university. Lastly, I am an inaugural member of the Society of Women Engineers chapter at Wake Forest and I am also a member of Wake Forest's Net Impact Chapter which focuses on sustainability efforts and leadership skills.
