Your grade depends on the extent to which you demonstrate mastery and complete the 29 outcomes in the course.
13 Precalculus Outcomes
15 Calculus Outcomes
1 Participation, Presentation, and Engagement Outcome
The following describes the number of outcomes you must complete in order to earn specific final letter grades.
To earn an A: 25, including 13 calculus outcomes
To earn an A-: 25
To earn a B+: 24, including 12 calculus outcomes
To earn a B: 23
To earn a B-: 21
To earn a C+: 20, including 11 calculus outcomes
To earn a C: 19
To earn a C-: 18
To earn a D: 14
No +/- will be awarded with grades of D or F.
A mathematical content outcome (precalculus or calculus) is considered complete by demonstrating mastery TWICE via any combination of homework sets, quizzes, tests, etc.
To see criteria for the Participation, Presentation, and Engagement outcome, see the collapsible menu below.
Each mathematical content outcome appears at least 3 times on scheduled homeworks, quizzes, tests, or the final exam. By making strategic use of the reassessment bonanzas, you can have several chances to reassess any given outcome.
This outcome will be considered mastered if and when you earn enough points from the following:
P&P self-report quizzes in Canvas
Your score on the ALEKS final assessment
Your score on the MTH111 final exam
At the end of the semester, I will convert your P&P self-report average to a score out of 100 points.
To complete this outcome, you must earn a total of 210 points from:
(P&P avg / 100 possible) + (ALEKS final / 100 possible) + (Final Exam / 100 possible)
Each Wednesday, we will have a Homework Set due in Canvas.
Each Monday, we will have a Quiz due in Canvas.
The outcomes covered on each homework set and each quiz are listed on the course schedule.
Your work on Homework and Tests may need to be revised from your first attempt in order to achieve mastery.
On several class days throughout the term --- see the course schedule for specific dates --- we will have a Reassessment Bonanza.
You may select any three previously attempted mathematical learning outcomes to be reassessed.
Submissions on Reassessment Bonanzas are not eligible for revisions.
We will have two in-class midterm tests during the term --- see the course schedule for specific dates.
The tests will only cover selected calculus outcomes.
See the course schedule and/or Canvas for details on which outcomes will appear on each test.
Submissions on Tests are not eligible for revisions.
The final exam for MTH111 is common across all sections. It is held during the MTH block exam time.
We will take the common MTH111 final exam during the MTH block time with all other Spring 2023 MTH111 students (see the Participation, Presentation, and Engagement section above).
However, you can also schedule up to two "Final Exam Reassessment Bonanzas" during the week of May 1 - May 5.
Friday, 5 May at 5pm is the final deadline for submission of all work for this course.
When will the exam be?
