Freshman Advisory

Description

The purpose of the Freshman Advisory program is to help incoming freshmen transition from the middle school into the high school as smoothly as possible. West Fork High School believes that helping freshmen find connections with responsible upperclassmen is key to a successful ninth grade year. The Freshman Advisory program is highly selective when choosing juniors and seniors to serve as advisors. Juniors and seniors must complete an advisory application; those applications are then reviewed by a teacher committee.

Junior and Senior Advisors are partnered with 3-4 freshmen at the beginning of the school year. These small groups meet once a month to discuss high school-specific events and requirements. Junior and Senior Advisors explain everything from building homecoming floats to semester test schedules to their freshmen. Team building activities are also rotated into the monthly meeting agendas. Plus, these advisors get the chance to expand their knowledge of culture through events and activities led by the advisory sponsors. In 2021-22, Junior and Senior Advisors got the chance to learn about theater etiquette and watch a musical in the fall semester. In the spring, they learned about conservation of the Buffalo River and go on a hike through Lost Valley.
