F.F.C.

Feature, Function, Class

A little background information

What are we teaching?

F.F.C Goes beyond knowing the name/label of an object, to teach how to identify and recognize objects based on their observable attributes (features), or what they are used for (function), or what category/group they belong to (class).

Why do we teach by feature, function and class?

This skill is generally useful in expanding vocabulary and conversation skills, and also in activities or situations where the child must use reasoning to figure out more general information. Identifying items by their features, function or class provides students with the vocabulary they need to describe and explain items or situations with greater detail. Also helpful in organizational and sorting skills where objects are grouped based on their features, function, or class.

Here are some activities to work on F.F.C. at home:

Feature, Function , Class Scavenger Hunt

Open the 'Google slides' presentation to reveal the activity prompts. Take pictures of items based on features, functions and class. Encourage students to think outside the box and look for a variety of items for each prompt. Have fun! I will post your responses after you send them to me on Remind. If you are not able to open 'Google Slides' please contact me so I can adjust the format.

Cathalina completed the Feature, Function, Class Scavenger Hunt. Check out everything she found. Great Job Cathalina!

Julianna completed the Feature, Function, Class Scavenger Hunt from her yard. Super Julianna!

Julianna found something with wheels,

something blue that has legs, can crawl, fly and be worn,

something yellow,

something cold that you can eat.
