Scenario - You and a partner (or group of 4) are planning a week long hiking trip to a remote area. Your location coordinates will be assigned to you.
Objective: You must pack light due to the intensity of the trip, which also means you must pack smart. One of the most important items which you will have to pack is a "Safety and Survival Kit". This kit must be functional enough to assist in the aid of a variety of emergencies, but compact enough to store in your backpack. The size of your kit is a SMALL duffle Bag - approximately 24" X 24".
Your group must design a safety/survival kit containing at least 25 items in order to get you safely through a week-long excursion.
Your survival kit will differ in many ways from another group based on the location of your trip. Geographical and environmental factors will play a major role in the design of your kit. Some items might be typical first aid items, while others may be more specific items that relate to your geographical location.
Plug your coordinates in HERE to find out where your group will be traveling to.
Research your destination in order to learn about the elements in which your group will have to prepare for. Complete all questions on Graphic Organizer.
Step 2 - Review your responses from your research to determine the 25 items that you think will be essential for your safety kit. List the 25 items. After you are done listing the item, prioritize them by writing a number in the left column (1 - being the most essential to 25 - the least essential).
Step 3 - Create a digital poster using Canva. Your digital poster will include a detailed list of items in your survival kit based on the information you gathered from your research. Your kit will consist of many standard first aid items, clothing as well as items you may have to use to deal with your particular location.
Posters must include:
pictures or examples of at least 5 of your 25 items - 1 Page
key information about your destination (flora, fauna, animals both deadly and non-deadly) 3 Pages
important safety information about traveling in your destination (daytime temps, nigh time temps, altitude, etc.) 1 Page
include a picture of a map of location -1 Page
include pictures, graphics and text
Step 4 - You will present your projects. Projects will be presented via a Gallery Walk.
Instructions: You will view a minimum of 4 different presentation. Complete an observation reportfor each presentation.
