Thomas Borgman is entering his first year as Percussion Director and Assistant Band Director at Rider High School. He grew up in Wichita Falls and attended Rider from 2012-2015 as a member of the percussion section. While at Rider, he had many opportunities to perform and grow as a musician, including a performance at Cadogan Hall in London, England.
He attended Oklahoma State University and received a degree in music education from the Greenwood School of Music. While at OSU, he was involved in numerous music ensembles, including 4 years of Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra and the Cowboy Marching Band where he served as drum major his senior year. He was a finalist in the OSU Concerto Competition and performed as a featured soloist in the Oklahoma Percussive Arts Society annual convention.
Mr. Borgman spent his summer breaks serving on staff at Pine Cove, a Christian overnight youth camp based in Tyler, Texas. He worked at the Towers, the camp for 2nd -5th grade students. Throughout his time at camp, he had the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles including counseling, mentoring and playing in the camp worship band. Two of his summers included leadership internships, one of which as Work Crew Director where he directly oversaw the maintenance and upkeep of the campgrounds and led a staff of 200 college students. His time at Pine Cove taught him both valuable life skills and educational skills as he learned to effectively lead a group of people towards a common goal.
Upon graduating from OSU in 2020, Mr. Borgman taught for one year in the private school system at Trinity Christian Academy in Addison, Texas serving as their Percussion Instructor. His duties included directing the percussion ensemble, directing the drumline, teaching private lessons to the percussion students and assisting the head band director in preparation for contest where they successfully earned a sweepstakes.
Mr. Borgman loves to teach band and is passionate about music making. He feels very fortunate for the opportunity to return to his roots and inspire his students in the same way that he was inspired throughout his time in the Rider band program. He currently resides in Wichita Falls, Texas with his fox red Labrador retriever puppy, Maya.
