The 30-hour GT Foundation Training is comprised of 3 types of sessions:
Nature and Needs of GT Students (at least 6 hours)
Assessment and Identification of GT Students (at least 6 hours)
Curriculum and Instruction for GT Students (up to 18 hours, and can vary depending on grade level or content)
Our District provides this professional development in the fall semester.
Teachers have many options for maintaining qualifications through annual 6-hour updates.
Many of the courses offered through Region 9 can count for GT updates. When searching, under "Credits Available," look for something like "(6) GT."
HOWEVER... Avoid courses in the Gifted/Talented Co-Op. These courses require additional fees, which are typically NOT paid by the District's central office.
If you're interested in attending a session for which there is a fee, contact your campus principal and ask if funds are available.
For a complete list of sessions at Region 9 that count for GT credit --but won't cost anything-- check out the document linked below.
Many of the courses in Eduhero can be used for GT update hours.
