As we prepare for our upcoming season, the safety and well-being of our student-athletes has always remained our top priority. To ensure each of our football players (freshman through senior) has the best protection available, we are launching a campaign to upgrade our equipment to the latest, highest-rated safety helmets and shoulder pads that are currently on the market. If you are interested in looking through the study and learning more about the rankings, here is a link to the Virginia Tech Helmet Ratings . We are looking at the ViCIS and Schutt F7 and the Riddell Speedflex Diamond. For reference, we currently use the Riddell Speedflex.
We have an incredible opportunity to make this happen quickly! Along with the Jr. Dukes, who have already begun fundraising for new helmets, we can lower the price per helmet down with a larger quantity order. Additionally, our program is fortunate enough that a generous donor has pledged to match every dollar we raise!
This means that for every $100 our football family contributes, $200 will go directly toward purchasing top-tier, impact-reducing gear. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to fully outfit the program with equipment that meets the highest of safety standards for concussion prevention and impact protection.
