Nick Bellore (Athlete, Class of 2007)

Nick Bellore was a three-sport athlete at Whitefish Bay High School where he collected seven letters in Football, Track and Hockey.  Nick’s greatest athletic achievements came on the football field and is one Whitefish Bay’s most decorated players.  He was a starter on the football team for three years.  During his junior and senior year, Nick served as a team captain.  He was also named Duke Pride Award winner in both 2005 and 2006.  His accomplishments on the field earned Nick a 1st team All-Conference Honors in 2005 and 2006 and he was named the 2006 North Shore Conference Defensive Player of the Year.  He was named to the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-State as a junior and First Team All-State as a senior.  He went on to play collegiately at Central Michigan University where he started 51 of 52 games, set the all-time record for tackles by a freshman and is currently third all time in tackles at CMU.  He was named Defensive Player of the Year by CMU in 2008 and 2009 and earned All-Conference honors 2008-2010.  In 2011, Nick signed with the New York Jets and made the roster as a linebacker/special teams player.  In 2014, he was recognized by Pro Football Focus as an All-Pro Special Teams Player. After his time with the Jets, Nick has played for the San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Lions and he is currently playing for the Seattle Seahawks, where in 2020, he was named to the All NFC team as a special teams player and he was selected to the Pro Bowl.

 

Betsy Blaney (Athlete, Class of 1972)

Betsy Blaney earned two letters in tennis her junior and senior years, helping the Whitefish Bay High School girls’ team win the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association’s inaugural state tournament in 1971. She took third place in singles in 1972 and is the most accomplished tennis player to come out of Whitefish Bay High School to date. A few months after graduating, Betsy moved to Texas to pursue her tennis. In 1975, she was awarded one of the nation’s first Title IX scholarships and played tennis for Southern Methodist University in Dallas from 1975-1977. She won the doubles championship in 1975 and 1976 in the Texas Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. In 1978, she was ranked No. 1 in Texas in the Women’s Open Singles division. Betsy began playing on the Women’s Tennis Association tour in 1980, playing at the US Open and Wimbledon. In 1981, she and her partner got to the round of 32 at Wimbledon and won the Swedish Open Women’s Doubles title. In 1973, Betsy was a linesperson for the Battle of the Sexes between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in the Houston Astrodome. As a journalist, she wrote first-person columns about that experience, interviewing King in the Astrodome for the 25th anniversary of that historic match.

 

Jeff Frank (Athlete, Class of 1999)

Jeff Frank was a three-sport athlete at Whitefish Bay High School where he collected seven letters in Basketball, Football and Tennis.  Not only did Jeff play three sports, he excelled in them.  He helped lead his team to WIAA State Championships in Basketball and Tennis (2x).  He was named Player of the Year in the North Shore Conference for basketball in 1999.  In his Senior year of basketball, he averaged 25.7 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game.  He shot an incredible 51% from the field his senior year, including 44% from the three-point line.  In football, Jeff was the starting quarterback for the 1997 and 1998 seasons.  In his Senior season, he passed for 2,057 yards with 22 touchdowns and rushed for an additional 5 touchdowns.  He has a WIAA state record with a 99-yard passing touchdown.  At the time of Jeff’s graduation, he held 16 school records in football.  In Tennis, he won the last 18 matches in his senior year to help cap off the team’s second straight WIAA State Championship and earned the Duke Pride Award in his senior season.

 

Carl Fuda (Distinguished Contributor)

Carl Fuda has had a major impact in Whitefish Bay athletics and the community for the past 20 plus years.  He has been an integral part of our football program since 2001 – including being the coordinator of the Junior Duke Football program for 15 years.  Additionally, Carl has had a major stake in all the Whitefish Bay’s athletic facility improvements.  In 2006 and 2007, he spearheaded the fundraising effort for our new turf football/soccer field. Carl also led the efforts to fund and build the new turf baseball and softball fields.  In 2018, Carl directed the largest donor group for the new and improved fitness center, in honor of Coach Jim Tietjen. His endeavors have helped provide the Whitefish Bay community with the finest athletic facilities in Southeastern Wisconsin.  He continues to be a member of the Whitefish Bay Gridiron Club and the Friends of Bay Baseball Booster Club. He also funds an annual leadership scholarship for the football program. Carl has served as a Whitefish Bay Village Trustee for the past 9 years.

 

David McDermott (Athlete, Class of 1963)

David McDermott is arguably the most decorated boy’s distance runner in Whitefish Bay High School’s history.  An eight-time letter winner in Cross Country and Track, he is one of three Whitefish Bay runners to win the WIAA Individual State Cross Country Championship and is the only runner in school history to win two state titles, where he established new state course records in 1961 and in 1962, where he led his team to a WIAA State Championship.  David also won seven Suburban Conference championships, two in cross country and five in indoor and outdoor track.  Though limited to the mile run as the longest track distance, he nevertheless dominated the Suburban Conference on the track as well.  He set the Suburban Conference indoor mile record in 1962, a mark that stood as the conference standard for 10 years and for two decades was the Whitefish Bay’s school record.  His runner-up finish in the mile at the 1962 WIAA State Championship was a key part to the teams WIAA State Championship that year. In 2017, David was inducted to the Wisconsin Coaches Cross Country Hall of Fame.
