Steve was a four sport athlete who won five State Championships and earned twelve Varsity letters.
Steve’s most impressive athletic accomplishments came in the area of distance and middle distance running. He won multiple Conference, Regional, and Sectional Championships. He was named All State in both track and cross country. Steve competed at the State track meet all four years, and was the individual State Champion in the 800m run in both his junior and senior years. He anchored a relay team that won back to back State Championships in the 3200m relay, setting a state record in 2006. Steve is the current WFB school record holder in the 800 meter run and the 3200 meter relay. In the fall of 2005, the Cross Country team won the State Championship lead by Steve’s 10th place finish.
Because of his running accomplishments, Steve qualified to participate in prestigious Regional and National Track Meets such as Midwest Distance Gala, the Nike National Meet and the historic Penn Relays in Philadelphia. After graduation in 2006 Steve accepted a Track and Field Scholarship to UW-Madison where he earned 2nd team All Big Ten recognition as a freshman.
In addition to his decorated career as a runner, Steve was a four year member of the Whitefish Bay Basketball program, including 3 years as a Varsity starter. His senior year, the Blue Dukes won the North Shore Conference championship and spent a great deal of the year as the #1 ranked Division 2 team in Wisconsin. Steve also played three years of baseball for the Blue Dukes.
