Michael's mother is Palagi, and his father is Samoan (but he has never met his father). However, that is about to change, and with it a visit to his father's village in Samoa. And an emotional meeting awaits with his grandmother who has been wanting to meet him.

This story follows Si' silia, who struggles with her identity being half Samoan and half Pālagi. She is teased for her green eyes-mata i pusi- the eyes of a cat. On a walk to school her nana helps her come to accept who she is. The poem Afakasi Chameleon, based on the same theme could be read as a follow-up to this story.
