Neighbourhood maps
Your neighbourhood can provide some of the best writing ideas as this is something you will have a vast knowledge of. On a piece of paper (provided by Miss Ha'unga) draw your neighbourhood including key landmarks such as your house, your school, local parks or playground, churches, shopping stores and many more that you deem important. Here are some examples of neighourhood maps to support you.
Friday 8th April
You are writing a persuasive text today to persuade the students in our class that do not usually go swimming each week to convince them to join us :)
WALT: write a persuasive text
WILF: I can use words like I think...I strongly believe....I feel that....In this situation.... to persuade the reader
Example:
Splash splash splash! I strongly believe that everyone in our class should go swimming. I will give you 3 reasons why they should swim each week.
Firstly, swimming is an exhilarating way to incorporate physical activity into your day. Exercising and keeping active are all integrated during swimming time.
Furthermore I feel that everyone should swim each week because it is an important life skill to learn. You never know when you may come across trouble in the waters someday in the future. I don't think we should ever be in a situation where we can't swim to safety, that would be horrific.
Lastly swimming is such an electrifying experience like who wouldn't want to experience that? So what are you waiting for? Bring your togs every Wednesday and join in on the fun. Trust me you won't regret it.
WALT: write a letter to a staff member
WILF: I can describe how I felt and why
I can use topic specific vocabulary such as thrilled, movie, popcorn, entertaining, Encanto, singing, inspiring, electrifying
Tuesday 5th April
WALT: write take notes
Success criteria: I can write key words relating to the topic
WALT: think of thought provoking questions
WILF: - I can use a question mark at the end of my question
I can start with a capital letter
Examples:
-How did you manage to keep going in that freezing water?
-Is there a specific reason why you weren’t wearing a t-shirt or jumper since you were jumping in ice cold water?
-What made you want to save the two dogs stuck on ice?
-How did you feel at the end after realising what you had done?
-How did you break through that ice so easily?
WALT: use similes in my writing to add effect
WILF: I can use like or as
I can compare two things that are alike
Examples:
It was pitch black like a moonless night
I was brave as a lion
Everybody cheered and clapped like cheerleaders
He was tough as nails
Here are two examples to support you with your writing
Here is another example
