Museums can be boring for kids if we don't get to touch the art and artifacts.
Imagine the frustration for the blind or visually impaired.
Our Solution: We feel that producing replicas and raised relief artworks would enrich our experience, make museums interactive, and help everyone gain insight.
Museums have to preserve the originals and keep them safe behind glass, but 3D printing is cheap enough for replicas to be easily replaced and reproduced.

Our podium display features a 3D raised-relief printing of the lithograph "Sundance" by Winold Reiss (1947).
The descriptive tag has been transposed into braille and 3D printed at the top of the podium next to an enlarged high-contrast copy of the text.
To the right of it is a QR code that that brings you to a video that describes the artwork as you interact with the exhibit. Listen to the description below.

We took a high resolution image of 2D artwork at the museum.
Then the photo was uploaded to Chat GPT with the following prompt:
"Could you please turn this 2D art into a 3D raised-relief where the dark areas are higher and light areas are lower?
The relief depth should be 8-15 mm and use best practices for creating quality 3D printing models.
It should be in a .obj file format.
Add a backing to the file so it has 20 mm additional material for easy printing. Make the backing slab fully fused and watertight.
Smooth the model so it feels more like a carving or a sculpture without sharp peaks."
