The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was signed into law by the President on December 10, 2015, and reauthorized the 50-year-old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the nation’s education law that provides opportunity for all students.

Under the new ESSA plan, Arkansas has an opportunity to change the landscape of K-2 assessments and develop a vision for the rest of the nation to follow.

West Side School District has chosen to use the Renaissance Learning Assessment Suite for K-2 students, which includes the Early Literacy, STAR Reading, and STAR Math assessments.

These are online and adaptive assessments which will be administered three times a year at a minimum.
