Show Choir Camp
Get the Edge Up on the Competition!
The Westside Edge Show Choir Training Camp will offer students the opportunity to develop their skills in the performing arts. Students will undergo learning sessions on:
Singing: How to sing with proper technique and healthy habits to foster a great sound.
Choreography: How to dance with the appropriate style and technique.
Auditioning tips for show choir: what you can do to make show choir at Westside Middle School.
How to be a leader within a group and the student others look up to.
Academics, Athletics and Show Choir, Oh My. How to balance it all in middle school and beyond.
Hip Hop Dance and how to do it? Learn a full routine led by the Basement Hip Hop Dance Studio.
Solo Singing: How to work your voice to fit a solo choice
Students will learn full choreography to two to three songs along with vocals. Students will also gain insight into vocal skills which will help place them in the position to make show choir in the Fall at Westside Middle School.
WHEN: JUNE 5 - JUNE 9
WHO: Any student entering 6th, 7th or 8th Grade in the Fall of 2023
WHERE: Westside Middle School Performing Arts Wing
HOW: Register with the link below by May 1.
COST: The cost of the camp is $250.00 payable by check or cash.

Meet the Clinicians
Nick Djernes
Nick Djernes just finished his sixth year as the Vocal Music Director at Westside Middle School, where he teaches general music courses, 7th Grade Choir, 8th Grade Choir, Westside Connection show choir, and directs a spring musical production. Prior to teaching at Westside Middle School, Nick taught K-6 music for 7 years in the Westside district. In that time he served as Department Chair over the elementary music department, where he spearheaded new curriculum development, music assessment design, and budget updates to increase opportunities for elementary students to engage more actively in the classroom. After student teaching at Westside High School with Doran Johnson, Nick also directed the Warrior Express show choir for five years along with Mr. Johnson. Before accepting his new position at the middle school, Nick graduated from the University of Nebraska with his Masters degree in Educational Leadership. Nick currently lives in the Sunset Hills neighborhood with his wife, Kelly, and their three spirited daughters, Brenna, Adelynn, and Willa.

(performance to be held on Friday at 4:00 PM)
