MTSS
Another acronym you'll hear at our school is MTSS, or Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. These tiers are used to support students in academics, such as reading and math, as well as in their behavioral development.
Another acronym you'll hear at our school is MTSS, or Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. These tiers are used to support students in academics, such as reading and math, as well as in their behavioral development.
The graphic below is a common illustration of how our multi-tiered system works.
Tier 1 is the instruction we provide to all students. These systems include:
Tier 2 provides instruction to groups of students who demonstrate behaviors considered at risk.
Tier 3 provides individual students with specific instruction to address their individual behavioral growth.
You can think of them as layers. All students receive Tier 1 instruction, some students benefit from the additional support of Tier 2 instruction, and a few students benefit from the support of Tiers 1 & 2 instruction, as well as individually planned instruction provided in Tier 3.
