Library Media SpecialistsWhat can we do for you? You never know until you ask! Please consider us a co-teacher and a resource and reach out to us at ANY time. We are here to support the teachers and students in our community. Here's just a brief overview of things that we can support you:
Planning and instruction for information literacy lessons/units.
Includes:
Information seeking / research
Information evaluation
Use of information to build on prior knowledge and construct new knowledge
Use of NoodleTools to organize research process and cite sources
Technology lessons
Create and design posters and infographics
Video/Audio Production (including podcasts)
Collect and provide print and non-print resources to support teachers with specific lessons/units
make book lists
put together carts of books from the library
Evaluate and/or purchase print and non-print information to support curriculum
WiFi
If a student needs assistance with connecting or re-connecting to the BYOD network, please feel free to send them to the library and we would be happy to assist them.
Loaner Computers
We DO NOT have computers for students that have forgotten their computer at home. If a computer is broken, have the student bring the computer to the library and we will do some basic troubleshooting with them. If the student does not have the broken computer with them, a parent or guardian must email us, as per district procedures. We loan Chromebooks on a week long basis for a student that is actively seeking support for their current non-working device.
If a student has a dead battery, we have chargers available for all devices, which are lent for a one day loan period. We also have multiple charging stations located in the library to accommodate personal devices such as calculators, cell phones, ear buds, and laptops.
Students who need books:
Feel free to send 2-3 students to library at any given time (other than during Connections). If an entire class needs books, please schedule with us so that we can be available to assist a larger number of students at one time.
The color (SHS-LMC-C01) and black & white (SHS-LMC-BW01) printers are in the main library entry area. The B&W printer is also a copier. Students are able to print from their own devices (up to 20 pages per day). Feel free to send 2-3 students at any given time for assistance with printing. If an entire class needs to print, please schedule with us so that we can be available to assist a larger number of students at one time.
Large Format Printer - If you would like something printed on the large format printer, please reach out to us and we would be happy to assist you with this. We also have the option to print 11"x17" on the LMC color printer. We are happy to provide assistance with this as well.
The library has a vast selection of equipment that can be loaned to both students and teachers.
We ask that if you intend to do a project that involves borrowing this type of equipment you give us a heads up (whenever possible) so that we can be sure to prepare everything in advance in order to save your instructional time.
We also ask that you return the items ON TIME or request a renewal since these items tend to be popular and we want to be sure anyone needing them has an opportunity to use them.
The laminator is located in the library. Our library paras, Chris and Jen, do the laminating based on need and availability. If you have laminating to be done please put a post-it on the item(s) with your name on it and the date in which you need it completed. Then, hand it to a library staff member or, if everyone's busy, on the counter BEHIND the circulation desk.
When laminating is complete someone will email you. You can pick up your items from behind the circulation desk.
COME ON DOWN! We want you to take advantage of the flexible space the library provides to support and enhance your instruction. If you'd like to schedule use of a library space please reach out to Nicole and Jenn via email.
If you need to use any of the library classroom (502, 503 and 509) during the school day, please email us. If you would like to use any of the library spaces after 3:30, please email VJ Sarullo and include us on the email as well.
Thank you to Kelly Zatorsky, Bedford Middle School Library Media Specialist, for being a great collaborator and providing us with inspiration for this portion of our website.
