Provided by WOMS Libraries, Gale In Context: Middle School combines the best of Gale's reference content with age-appropriate videos, newspapers, magazines, primary sources, and much more. Categories cover a range of the most-studied topics including cultures, government, people, U.S. and world history, literature, and many more.

Britannica School's Middle School Encyclopedia is online and free through Michigan's e-library, and is a great place to start researching people, places, and things. It creates citations for students and has some accessibility features, like that it will read the articles to the students and offers different reading levels for each article.


Magazines and reference books for middle school students. Includes thousands of biographies and primary source documents. Subjects include history, current events, science, sports, and biographies. Also includes photos, maps, and flags.

Giving Credit: Citing Your Sources

My go to resource when I need to know how to cite something or see a format example. 

From Calvin University in Grand Rapids, this tool requires you to enter the information so you know it is more accurate. 

This free tool helps you check credibility, and will import a Works Cited page right to your Google Drive.  Always check for accuracy when importing though!
