The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights Act (P.L.2010, c.122) requires that the week beginning with the first Monday in October of each year be designated as a “Week of Respect” in New Jersey. Throughout the week there will be activities that incorporate a message of respect and kindness, with personal uplifting messages, demonstrating pride in school, random helpful acts, smiling, and/or wearing various colored clothing to highlight the aspects of the week.
Week of Respect assists students in learning about how to respect others, our school, and our community. It promotes safe and healthy learning environments for all.
School Violence Awareness Week has been designated in New Jersey the week beginning the third Monday in October. School-wide activities are planned that promote peaceful co-existence, acceptance, and embracing our differences.
The purpose of Red Ribbon Week is to present a commitment to a safe, healthy and drug free lifestyle. The first Red Ribbon Week was proclaimed in 1988 by the US Congress in honor of Agent Camarena (who worked for the Drug Enforcement Administration and was undercover investigating a drug cartel in Mexico when he was kidnapped, tortured and then killed). The week is marked by the wearing of a red ribbon to send the message: live drug free!
