Veterans Day at Weston was a special day where everyone came together to honor the men and women who have served in the military. The day started with a big ceremony in the school gym, where Mr. Doak and Mr. Walters gave a speech about why Veterans Day is important. We learned it's a time to thank veterans for their service and sacrifice. The band started to play, and the veterans began to walk in while everyone was clapping to respect their honor for serving for us.
Lieutenant Jack Mahoney, a Navy Chaplain, talks to WMS 8th graders.
A group of students sang patriotic songs, like The Star Spangled Banner and America the Beautiful, which made everyone feel proud. Some veterans from the community came to the ceremony and sat in the front row, proudly wearing their uniforms. After the ceremony, some 8th-grade classes went to

The sixth graders all had a great time at Calf Pasture Beach on Oct 10. They started the day by playing lots of fun games.
The Mountain Workshop employees were very supportive and let the students have fun. WMS sixth grader Maya Walton says that her favorite part of the day was “probably the games and all of the fun that we had.”
At lunchtime, everyone gathered around for sandwiches, lemonade, and snacks. Then they went back to the fields to have more fun. Everyone was happy and tired when they climbed back onto the buses at the end of the day, students and teachers alike.
One of the students’ favorite stations was the Freddy the Fishgame. In this game, everyone had to make it to the other side,
in a red light green light fashion, and then had to steal the fish. Once they stole the fish though, they couldn't be caught with it on the way back. Students got very competitive and very good at hiding the fish from the Mountain Workshop staff. Once the fish and the team made it back to the other end, the celebration had begun, with everyone excited to have won.
Overall, the field trip was a great experience where students learned all about sportsmanship and teamwork, while still having lots of fun. Click here to learn more

On Friday, October 18th, the 7th-grade students attended their first school trip of the year to the Adventure Park in Bridgeport.
The Adventure Park is a fun place with zip lines, obstacles, and climbing, each with different levels of challenges, divided by color coding, much as at ski resorts.
Students were divided into four groups, and some even completed black diamond courses, including Mr. Dey and Ms. Agler. Overall, the trip was exciting and fun.
There are different difficulty levels, each shown by a color and/or shape. Purple, yellow, green, blue, black, and black diamond. Each increases the needed skills for the level.
The teachers also enjoyed the day, especially Mr. Dey and Ms. Agler who bravely completed the more challenging courses.
WMS Teams Compete for the Most Points.
By Zoe Simon and Kaela Levine
The year has started, and WMS academic teams have begun to compete. Will it be the Innovators, Inventors, Adventures, Explorers, Trailblazers, or the Revolutionaries for the win? That's what we are all wondering.
A pep rally to kick off the competition had teams sit together wearing their team colors, turning the Old Gym bleachers into a virtual flag of colors. The announcement started, and the new teachers joining our school were introduced! When Mr. Walters told everybody, “Look where you are sitting. Come up if you have a smiley face under you!” One person from each team stood up and walked onto the court, as their team cheered their name. The roar of 460 WMS students screaming for their team pierced teachers’ eardrums as it echoed the glossy, concrete walls of the Old Gym. As the winners walked onto the court, they learned the competition would start with basketball. ! They each got shots at the hoop, and their teams screamed their support for each shot, whether it swished or missed.
After that, the team spirit competition began, as teams were judged by how many wore their colors and which team cheered the loudest, rattling the gym walls. These activities earned the teams their first points of the year.
Throughout the rest of the year, the teams will earn points by completing their Connect Activities. Every other Wednesday students go to their Connect teachers and some students go to the office to grab some supplies for the activity. Students create decorations for the school, perform service activities such as writing thank-you cards to veterans, and even answer trivia questions from teachers outside. As they flooded around the building, students were asked about Sports, the tallest grass in the world, and which team had won the most. Connect is one of the ways that most of the teams earn their points which they use to get the win.
For most activities, teams earn 6 points for winners, 5 points for second place, down to a single point for the losing team, though for some activities divided by grade level, the winning team for each grade gets 6 points and the losing team gets 3. As of Nov. 37, the Innovators are leading with 34 points. Click here to learn more
