Clubs in the Weston Middle School have been around ever since the Weston Middle School has existed. Some clubs are started by students and others are created by teachers and staff. We are going to introduce the Asian Affinity Club, a group that focuses on Asian culture and expresses diversity among asian people.Â
Q & A with the Asian Affinity Club staff (Ms. Narcisso and Ms. Lee):
Chloe & Juliana: When was this club started?
Asian Affinity Club: Ms. Dang started this club in 2019.
C & J: What goals are you working for?
AAC: To make a sense of belonging and to help asians and others to understand more about asian culture.
C & J: What do you do?
AAC: Play asian games, eat asian food, watch movies, and create bookmarks about asian culture. We gave 250 to the elementary schools! Additionally, we invited an Asian author to school, and Ms. Dang did a webinar. People can come and join, just drop in, and everyone is welcome. Not everyone has to be Asian to attend. Students also give suggestions for the club to improve the environment.
C & J: What is the main purpose of this club?
AAC: To increase awareness about asian diversity.
C & J: How does it feel like to manage this club?
AAC: Fun! And lots of energy too!
C & J: Is there a future plan or anything planned for the future?
AAC: Yes, something that the kids are planning is to build a paper dragon to hang around the school. We are planning to make it 3D.
Now, the Asian Affinity Club will thankfully not be ending anytime soon. You can experience the culture and understand it even more than if you just got some information from a Native. There is definitely a long, great future ahead for this club, so join the Asian Affinity Club today!
Join AAC every other Wednesday in room 231!
