Is this exhibit Art, Science, exploitation -combination?
This exhibit is a combination of art and science. It combines the human body's form and the art of making it. There are artistic aspects in the creation, but the overall message is scientific and the parts of the human body. There also are aspects of exploitation, not because it is unfair but because they used resources to benefit and teach people. I think this exhibit is a combination of all three, but mainly scientific. The bodies were made artistically, teach science, and use resources to benefit the people.
What disgusts you about this exhibit?
The fact that these bodies used to be alive is a little disgusting because the person has donated their body. The natural fluids of the bodies are replaced with a type of flexible plastic, which is kind of gross considering the body was alive at one point.
What fascinates you?
They donated their bodies to teach future generations about health and what it means to be alive. The anatomy is fascinating because it reveals the entire human body in each piece with real body parts. There are no pieces covered in skin, which allows you to see the inner anatomy and the muscles, bones, etc.
What educates you?
Some of the bodies show the effects of certain situations (disease, tobacco use, etc) which teaches me about these people who lived their lives with such issues. I am educated on good health vs poor health and the ways in which I can improve my health. I am also educated on anatomy and the inner workings of the human body. I can see real anatomy in a safe and educating way.
Artistic Anatomy Possible Projects
(concept and materials)
This idea is the anatomy of a human skull including the brain. On the brain there are flowers which represent inner beauty and around the skull are flowers which represent outer beauty. This concept combines art and science with artistic anatomy. The materials used are oil pastels because they blend well and show shading well. This is just a sketch of my idea.
This idea is the anatomy of a hand and the bones. It has flowers within it and a stem. This would include a mix of natural science as it would represent beautiful flowers and the intricate anatomy of the human hand. The materials used are pencil and acrylic paint. This is just a rough draft of my idea.
This idea is also a hand and the anatomy, but it includes more colors. It is originally drawn using a black sharpie and it is drawn without picking up the pen. That is one continuous line. This idea represents the connectivity of the human body and its system. The color represent the diversity in humans, even though we have the same structure. The materials are sharpie and water colors.
