Expectations
for Student Organizations
for Student Organizations
All recognized student organizations are asked to meet a few expectations.
Consult the Student Organization Handbook for more detailed information.
At least one meeting per semester must be open to all students, including prospective new members. Make sure this meeting is well advertised and added to the Student Life calendar.Â
Additionally, remember to send a student representative to the General Assembly meetings hosted by Student Government. There are no "excused absences"; organizations must find an alternative way to meet with Student Government officers if they cannot attend General Assembly.
At least once per semester, the group should sponsor some kind of service project. At least three students must take part.
Community service is defined broadly. Your group might raise money to donate, volunteer to do service work in person, or create some kind of awareness campaign for an important cause.
At least once per semester, the group should host an educational program for its members (it can also be open to other students).
Your project could be an off-campus educational field trip, inviting a guest speaker to a meeting, or having a student or faculty member present their own research.
At least once per semester, the group should host an activity, event, or program open to the general student population.
This is your chance to show off and meet people outside the group! It could be a fun social event or something more serious but, either way, it must be open to students who aren't already members of your group (and, maybe, they'll want to join after).
Always keep the Office of Student Life and Student Government informed about any changes to organizational leadership such as officers and/or advisors.
Student Life oversees the master membership roster for all student organizations. Please keep this list updated as members come and go. Information should be considered confidential and should be utilized exclusively for official organizational matters.
By the end of each semester, all student organizations must submit a form documenting their activities for the semester and how they align with the expectations listed above.
