Client setup to print from a macOS device

To add a printer

IMPORTANT

Make sure your Apple Mac is connected to the Westminster WiFi or Ethernet network.

Note: If you are connected to the "Westminster Guest" WiFi network the setup will fail.

Preferred method:

1. Click on the  in the upper left corner of your screen and choose "System Preferences". Click the "Printers & Scanners" icon. Delete any Westminster printers with a lightning bolt. Close the "System Preferences" window.

2. Download the Westmister printer setup utility app by clicking the appropriate button below.

3. After downloading the Westmister Printer Setup utility .zip file, double-click it to uncompress the installer app or choose "Open" if you are using Chrome.

4. Run the Setup app by double-clicking the icon in your Downloads folder.

5. Click Ok at the unidentified developer warning. This is normal for macOS unsigned installers.

6. Next go to your  menu and click System Preferences...

7. Click Security & Privacy.

8. Click Open Anyway.

9. Click Open to run the installer app.

10. When prompted install the printer driver package installer labled "Install". When all packages are finished installing close all open installer windows.

11. Print anything to force the print system authentication dialog box to appear. You can print a web page or Word document with random text.

12. When prompted enter your Westminster WiFi username and password.

Make sure to check the "Remember this password in my keychain" checkbox!

Note: If you cannot remember your WiFi username and password, please stop by the Tech office and we can help you recover it.

AirPrint method:

Note: If you already completed the above "Preferred method" steps successfully, there is no need to continue with the below "AirPrint method" setup

Navigate to System Preferences > Printers and Scanners.
Click the + icon under the Printers List.
The Add dialog is displayed. This dialog displays a list of all of the discovered printers on the network.
Select a printer. The Name, Location, and Use is displayed.
Check that Use is set to Secure AirPrint.
If Secure AirPrint is not displayed:
Close the Add dialog.
Disconnect from the network.
Reconnect to the network.
Try again. If you still cannot see Secure AirPrint, contact The Westminster IT Department.
Click Add.
Print your document. When prompted enter your Westminster WiFi username and password.
Repeat for any other required printers.

Note: If you enter the wrong authentication details, MacBook devices do not show any warning message; your job will just not print. If your job doesn’t print, check the Print Queue dialog. If the print job is there and has the message Held for authentication, click the icon; then re-enter your login details.
