Students examine the interactions of human body systems as they explore identity, power, movement, protection, and homeostasis. Students design experiments, investigate the structures and functions of the human body, and use data acquisition software to monitor body functions such as muscle movement, reflex and voluntary action, and respiration.

Students build organs and tissues on a skeletal Maniken®!  They also work through interesting real world cases and often play the roles of biomedical professionals to solve medical mysteries.

PLTW Biomedical courses are PERFECT for anyone interested in pursuing a health or medical career!  These classes are also great for students who are planning to attend college and would like to get a jump-start on earning college credit.

Students have the opportunity to earn college credit from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs!

This class is run much like a college-level course and, due to the fast pace and high number of projects, students must plan to meet deadlines in order to be successful. 

If students successfully complete the first three courses in the PLTW Biomed sequence (PBS, HBS, and MI), they will receive a full biology credit (1.0 credit). In addition, if students successfully complete the fourth class in the PLTW Biomed sequence (BI), they will receive a half credit of health (0.5 credit)
