Our main focus is making music to build community!
In these classes, we prepare for regular concerts and community performances.
Anyone who has an interest in playing a musical instrument!
Attendance at scheduled performances and rehearsals outside of school hours is required. These courses may be repeated for credit.
Concert Band: Concert Band is designed to promote students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover a variety of band literature styles and historical periods, primarily for concert performances. Prerequisite: none, open to ALL students
Symphonic Band: This course is designed to develop students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover a variety of band literature styles and historical periods, primarily for concert performances. Prerequisite: Concert Band or recommendation by Middle School Director.
Marching Band: This course is designed to cultivate students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, color guard techniques, parade marching, and field marching, primarily for performances enhancing school spirit, and at home football games. Band camps during the summer require attendance from all members, starting in August. (.5 credit) Prerequisite: Ability to play instrument.
Jazz Laboratory: This course is designed to develop students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, string, and percussion instruments, and introduce various jazz styles, primarily for concert performances. This is the introductory jazz course for committed students who plan to audition for Jazz Ensemble in the future, and as such, extended instrumentation (flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, euphonium, violin, viola, cello, double bass, and percussion) is allowed. Prerequisite: none, open to ALL students
Jazz Ensemble: This course is designed to cultivate advanced students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, improvisation, basic jazz concepts and articulation, and explore a variety of new musical styles, primarily for concert performances. Students must be concurrently enrolled in either Concert Band, Symphonic Band, or Wind Ensemble. Prerequisite: At least 1 semester in Jazz Laboratory and audition
Wind Ensemble: Wind Ensemble is designed to cultivate advanced students' technique for playing brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments and cover a variety of band literature styles and historical periods, primarily for concert performances. Prerequisite: At least 1 semester in Symphonic Band and audition
