Summer Reading

Welcome to the class website and page you'll use for SUMMER READING! Your summer reading assignment is due Friday, July 26th, via email.

The webpage you are currently on will explain your summer reading responsibilities. This information can also be found here. If you hover the cursor over Summer Reading (on a computer) at the top of the page or click on Summer Reading (on an iPad or other mobile device), you'll see two dropdown options: Book List and Book Review. These two pages will provide you with a list of books to choose from for your summer reading, along with the directions for writing and submitting your book review.

PURPOSE

As we work together with families to create lifelong learners, Westminster Christian Academy expects that our students will continue reading throughout the summer months. In working towards this goal, over the summer all incoming eighth grade students will be required to read two books they have not previously read. Students must choose books from the READING LIST. They should feel free to abandon a book at any point and switch to a more enjoyable book.

This summer reading project will be included in each student’s first semester English grade. Please follow the instructions on this website carefully.

TASK

1. Read two books from the book list that you have not previously read.

If you would like to read a book that is not on the list, please contact Heather Marsee (email) for approval before beginning the book. You can expect a response within two days. Please DO NOT read The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton or Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, as these books will be read by all eighth graders during the school year.

2. Once you finish reading both books, you will need to type and submit (via email) a response to both books. Details for the review are explained on the Response Page.

3. Once you finish your book response, you will want to email your paper to summerreading8@gmail.com. If you haven't submitted your book review by the due date, your parents will receive an email reminding you to finish reading the books and write and submit the review.

LATE PENALTY

Students will receive a one-point grade reduction per day that the written assignment is late (up to a 50% total reduction). This will be noted in the first quarter grade.
