It is important for your kindergartener to make mistakes, solve problems, and develop independence this year. Independence in kindergarten can look like:

• Struggling with a task the first few times (but not to the point of anger)

• Phonetic spelling in writing

• Backwards writing of letters/numbers/words

• Approximating (copying) what the teacher or a friend did

• Making Mistakes … when we know what doesn’t work, we can figure out what will work
