Speech & Debate

Course Description: Speech and debate is a performance-based course designed to develop students’ abilities in public speaking, argumentation, research, critical thinking, and effective communication. Throughout the semester, students will learn how to organize and deliver speeches, develop persuasive arguments, evaluate evidence, participate in structured debates, and communicate ideas respectfully.

This course is designed for students in grades 9-12 with a wide range of speaking experiences. Students do not need to be naturally confident speakers to succeed. The goal of this course is GROWTH!!! Developing confidence, improving communication skills, and learning how to effectively express ideas in front of an audience. 

Students will participate in individual speeches, group discussions, research activities, mock debates, peer feedback, and formal debate rounds.
