What is the Shire of Windy Meads?

The Shire of Windy Meads is a local chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) founded in A.S. XI, or the C.E. year 1977. Within the SCA, this shire is located in the Kingdom of the West, within the Principality of Cynagua. By modern world nomenclature, Windy Meads includes the Yolo County area. At present, our shire typically meets in Davis, CA.

The SCA is an organization dedicated to researching and recreating the arts and skills of pre-17th century Europe. Events are held around the local kingdom and throughout the world. Activities include reenacting artistry and technical skills (known as arts and sciences), combat arts (Heavy Rattan and Rapier Combat), feasts, educational workshops, and many more. Members are recognized for their service and accomplishments within the arts, sciences, martial prowess, and service, by their peers and the Crown.

The SCA is a non-profit group, and all members are voluntarily participating. All member events are actively recreating and learning history, each focusing on particular aspects of pre-17th century history. Newcomers are welcome, and garb (period appropriate clothing) can be provided for your first few events until you have borrowed, obtained, or made your own.

Our shire holds a yearly Archery Novelty Shoot and Hunt event in the spring. We also host regular local practices for activities like archery, armored combat, equestrian, and arts & sciences.
