Meeting Your Persona
By Séamus the Shameless
Almost everyone in the SCA develops a persona. Sometimes this consists of your SCA name and a vague notion of one or more associated cultures. Sometimes, your persona has a detailed background that highlights their past travels and history. In both cases, your persona is a reflection of you, your interests, and what you find important in the SCA.
Let's meet one another's personas and get to know one another better through discussing who your persona reflects and why you chose the persona you did. Anyone who wishes to further develop their persona or solicit ideas from the group are especially welcome.
This class is open to everyone and everyone's persona, no matter what stage of development you, or your persona, may be in.
Join my discussion for a good conversation and a good time. I will moderate the discussion.
The Medici Wedding of 1589
By Valgard Stonecleaver
The Medici family used theatrics and ceremony as a tool of politics. One of the most well-known examples was in the Royal processions and festivities that accompanied Medici weddings. This course looks at the 1589 wedding between Fernando di Medici and Christine Loraine, a watershed event in the history of theatre and music, as an intersection of theatre and politics within the Florentine Life. Sources include Roy String’s Art and Power, James Saslow’s The Medici Wedding of 1589, and A. M. Nagler’s Theater Festivals of the Medici, 1539 - 1637.

Artistic Intent and Feedback: An Examination and Discussion
By: Genevieve de Vendome
Class Type: Presentation and Group Discussion
Artists and craftspersons in the SCA can play and create within a broad spectrum of historical accuracy, from idealistic fantasy to recreation of historical artifacts. Understanding the intent behind artistic creation – by both the viewer and the artist – is key to respectful and effective artistic feedback and communications.
In this class, we’ll examine and discuss the role “intent” plays in:
artistic choices and historical compromises;
critique and feedback;
the idea of “informed intent”; and
what to do when intents collide.
