Advanced Placement United States History
In addition to our traditional textbook, other online sources are available to offer additional guidance and information. Feel free to incorporate them into your studies as a more efficient way of covering the material. If you find others, let me know and I will gladly link to them as well. Remember, we use the American Pageant, 17th edition. Please be aware that these notes should be used in conjunction with the book. Using them exclusively without the book will result in some information being missed. Details may be tested which can only be found in the textbook.
Two online note options are presented below.
1) APNotes.net - This site has notes prepared for our version of the American Pageant (17th edition). They are generally useful in providing an overview, but are limited in the context they provide for some of the information. They also leave out some details which may or may not be important (depending on how we cover certain topics this year.
2) CourseNotes - CourseNotes provides a much more comprehensive set of notes, based on the American Pageant and, generally, better context is provided. However, being more expansive means they take more time to utilize. In addition, CourseNotes has not yet created a set of notes based on the 17th edition of our textbook. As a result, I have done my best to create material which corresponds to our text (the link will take you to a Google Drive file with each chapter set in a Word document...settings have been enabled to allow anyone with the link to access the files). Please be mindful that some section headings may be different. In addition, if you catch any errors (of which I am sure there are some), please let me know and I will fix them as soon as I can.
Find any other good sites? Let me know and I'll add them in.
MUST KNOW VOCABULARY
Vocabulary is the "data" which drives this class and your ability to demonstrate your understanding of content. It needs to be included in all of the writing you do. While there is a lot you should know (and it will come up in your readings), here is a "must know" list of vocab you should know. Be familiar with all of the elements of these terms. Be able to connect these terms to other things.
For instance, in understanding the South Carolina Exposition, you should also know compact theory, Tariff of Abominations/1828, and the economic characteristics of the North and the South which resulted in the Exposition, including the Market Revolution.
"BE FAMILIAR WITH" VOCABULARY
This vocabulary list is more expansive, but no less important. You should be familiar with these terms, especially when given to you. You should also be able to use some of these within your writing on all Free-Response Questions. When given a topic to prepare ahead of time, this vocab list should be something you start with in doing your preparation research.
