Hello all! My name is Taylor Voelker and I am your science teacher. I have a BS in Healthcare Administration with a concentration in medical sciences and a Master's in the Art of Teaching, Integrated Science both of which I received from Kent State University.
Teaching is a second career for me and I could not be happier with the switch I have made. I did my student teaching at West G in the 2012-13 school year, then I was at Newbury from 2013-2020, and returned to West G in the 2020-21 school year. In this time, I have taught several science courses including an elective I created at Newbury called Science Now where students researched a current science topic of their choice and educated their classmates about it.
Prior to teaching, I was on the International Marketing Team for Cordis Corporation which is a medical device company specializing in products for heart surgery. A lot of the work I did there I can talk about in the science classroom. I also staffed physicians for a few years.
Outside of teaching I am married to my husband Ray and a mommy to my two amazing kids, Poppy and Beckham. We also have a mini aussie doodle named Knox Allen (for the Bills!) We are huge sports fans and love attending sporting events both professional (Browns, Bills, Cavs, Indians, Columbus Crew, Liverpool, and U.S. Soccer Teams) and at the high school. I have played both soccer and volleyball growing up through rec and travel leagues and at the Varsity level in high school. I have also coached soccer for rec leagues, at summer camps, and the varsity team while at Newbury. I also enjoy traveling, game nights with friends the theater, movies, and reading. Since Poppy was a preemie, our family is very involved with the March of Dimes and put a team together each year for the walk called Poppy's Posse (feel free to join us if you would like!).
