Get the kids outside. Take a hike. Catch fish. Go camping. Try kayaking or canoeing. Look for birds and animal tracks. Identify plants and trees. Time spent outdoors and connected with others builds strong bonds and curiosity.
Read about the benefits of nature.
Cooking and baking are some of the best, and most practical, ways to use all of the STEAM skills. Start small-- prepare a breakfast, follow directions on a box, learn to cut veggies. Share some of your favorite family recipes with the next generation.
Spend time together trying new arts and crafts. Experiment with different kinds of paint. Find a garden and take photos. Try new makeup styles. Experiment with fashion. Teach them to sew.
When you have a home project, get them to help. Have them measure. Learn how to use a hammer and nails. Use a screwdriver. Understand how to use caulking. Build and care for a garden. Care for a pet.
Write a family play and act it out. Make a slideshow about a favorite topic and present it on the TV. Practice conversation skills at dinner with questions and answers. Make up a dance routine and perform it.
Build with Legos. Create with cardboard. Build an obstacle course. Set up a domino race. Make a marble run. Create a mini golf course. Stack cups.
