"The more that you read, the more things you will know. the more that you learn, the more places you'll go." Dr. Seuss

Reading:

the students read 20-30 minutes each day in school and are encouraged to read 20 minutes each day at home.

*The GOAL is for students to read at least 40 books in a school year!* Inspired by The Book Whisperer

"You learn to read by reading and you learn to write by reading."

"When kids have interesting books to read and time to read them, they read more, and more matters. Students who read regularly grow as readers, they acquire more vocabulary, and they become better writers." From the book 180 DAYS

Writing:

In writing, we discover that the first draft is never the best draft. So we...

plan, write, revise, edit, share, and reflect on the process.

"The purpose of revision is not to correct, but to discover."

- Lucy McCormick Calkins

Listening and speaking:

The students talk to us (one-to-one), they talk to one another, and they talk to bigger audiences. All the while, they are listening, so they can give and receive

kind, helpful, and specific feedback.

  • - Inspired by the Buck Institute for Education

"Grades tell us where our students ended up, but daily assessment and feedback - the key ingredient in responsive teaching - tell us where we are going."

- From the book 180 DAYS
