What World Language Should You Choose in intermediate school?

A NOTE FROM WORLD LANGUAGES SUPERVISOR ENRIQUE PINCAY:

Bonjour! - Hola!

At Edison Intermediate School and Roosevelt Intermediate School, the World Languages Department offers introductory/novice level courses in French and Spanish. Incoming 6th-grade students have the choice of studying one of these languages during 6th-8th grades. All students make a 3-year commitment to studying one particular language.

Selecting a language of study is not always an easy decision to make. We encourage parents and students to engage in conversation regarding the level of interest, opportunities to use the target language/s beyond the classroom, career interests, travel opportunities, and the level of curiosity in the cultures represented by the target language/s.

The French and Spanish teachers have created the video below to introduce their prospective students to the world of language learning. We encourage all 6th-grade students to watch this video with their parents/guardians. We wish all our students success in their intermediate school experience.

The student’s 8th-grade teacher will provide a placement recommendation for those interested in continuing their study of the same language during their high school years. For more information on the 9th-grade placement and protocol, please CLICK HERE.
