One goal of this course is developing student knowledge and understanding of the interrelationships between living and non-living things within ecosystems. Another is fostering environmental issues such as human population growth, the energy crisis, and the effects of air and water pollution. Class topics are examined further in lab exercises and through four mandatory field trips held during the school day in areas of Westfield and other sites in of New Jersey. Conducted as field investigations, these trips are important extensions of classroom work and provide direct experience in measuring, testing, and observing.
