Biology I is an introductory college preparatory course. Biology I covers topics such as evolution, genetics, biochemistry, cell biology, molecular biology, and ecology. The topics are covered in greater depth and are taught from a more abstract approach than the conceptual approach of General Biology. Certain topics are taught from a molecular approach in Biology I and require quick mastery of new material and terms, spatial reasoning and visualization skills. Students are challenged to make qualitative and quantitative observations, analyze data, draw conclusions and work independently. Laboratory experiments demonstrate the experimental foundations of the subject matter, reinforce content, and teach laboratory techniques and safety. Skills required to write formal lab reports are developed and strengthened in this course.
