We had a great week! Here are some things we worked on in class:
Writing - In writing, we are diving into our poetry unit which is one of our most creative and exciting units of the school year! Our young poets have been hard at work exploring and creating many different types of poetry. This week, we focused on writing haikus, cinquain poems, shape poems, and Diamante poems. The students have loved using their imaginations, playing with words, and expressing their creativity through poetry! Ask your student which poem they liked the best!
Reading - In reading, we have completed our end-of-year assessments and are continuing our work in book clubs. Each group is reading the same book and then meeting together to discuss their thoughts, ideas, and feelings about the story. We have been focusing on identifying character traits and making meaningful connections to the text. It has been wonderful to see the students share their thinking and engage in thoughtful discussions with their classmates! Ask your student about their book!
Math - Our mathematicians have begun exploring shapes and their different attributes. We have been learning about right angles, vertices, and parallel lines while identifying and comparing a variety of shapes. We have also started partitioning shapes into rows and columns, helping students build an important foundation for future multiplication concepts. The students have enjoyed using hands on activities to explore geometry in meaningful ways!
Social Studies - In social studies, we have begun researching famous Americans. Students have been placed into groups and assigned a famous American to study and become an expert on. They are working together to learn important facts and information about their person and will use their knowledge to create a special presentation for the class. We are excited to see all of their hard work and creativity come to life! Ask your student about their famous American!
Science - It has been a very exciting time in science as we continue observing our mealworms and studying their life cycle firsthand! The students are absolutely loving this hands on learning experience and are eager to check on their mealworms each day. They have enjoyed making observations, noticing changes over time, and learning about each stage of the life cycle in a meaningful and engaging way. Their curiosity and enthusiasm have made this unit especially fun and memorable!
