QAS- Question Answer Strategy: Students should question text and read for a purpose as they search for answers
Read for Main idea and Details
Click or Clunk? Reading should "click" when it makes sense. If it "clunks" - stop and figure out why and attempt to "un clunk" it
Un Clunk difficult text: visualize, re-read slowly, re-read while note-taking, re-read in shorter chunks of text, do some research on the topic, read with a buddy, focus only on important information and let some other information go
After reading a text students should be encouraged to check and adjust previous predictions, to make connections to text, to reflect on character development, plot resolution as well as find themes, morals or draw other conclusions. Students should be encouraged to make thoughtful observations about the text through discussion, retelling, and written expression.
Students should always be able to retell any text they have read. A retelling is an oral or written account of the story that includes story elements as well as a theme or lesson learned.
