English III offers a formal study of language and literature that enhances our understanding of human communication in all its forms within the context of American Society. The curriculum at Westfield High School is designed to develop students’ skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing, integrating critical thinking, problem solving, the writing process, creative expression, cooperative learning, research, and technology. Emphasizing learning as a dynamic process, the course aims to equip students with the skills they need to become lifelong learners and compassionate global citizens. Language skills are taught through real-world contexts, highlighting the importance of effective communication in an increasingly technological world. Through the study of a diverse and inclusive canon of American literature, students gain an appreciation for the richness of the American experience and the varied voices that contribute to it.
