FITNESS: (Full Year)

NJ STANDARDS:

Standard 2.5: All students will utilize safe, efficient, and effective movement to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

Standard 2.6: All students will apply health-related and skill-related fitness concepts and skills to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to demonstrate proper resistance techniques using dumbbells, kettlebells and thera bands as they begin to learn how to develop their body through physical fitness.

  2. Students will be able to understand that applying a variety of effective fitness principals over time enhances personal fitness levels, performance and health status.

  3. Students will be able to effectively work together in a close environment while encouraging others and maintaining safety practices while participating in the fitness room.

SOCCER:

NJ STANDARDS:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand the basic skills, game strategy, teamwork, tactics, rules, and safety precautions of the game of Soccer.

  2. Students will be able to successfully explain and demonstrate the basic skills used in the game of soccer (dribbling, passing, shooting, goalkeeping, defending, etc.)

  3. Students will be able to safely and effectively work together in groups to participate in a soccer game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.


BADMINTON:

NJ STANDARDS:

Standard 2.5: All students will utilize safe, efficient, and effective movement to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.

Standard 2.6: All students will apply health-related and skill-related fitness concepts and skills to develop and maintain a healthy, active lifestyle.


OBJECTIVES:Students will be able to understand the rules, skills, techniques and safety involved in playing in a racket sport, such as badminton.

Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the basic skills used in the game of badminton (serving, forehand, backhand, etc.)

Students will be able to safely and effectively work together with a partner to participate in a badminton game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.


FLAG FOOTBALL:

NJ STANDARDS:

OBJECTIVES:

Students will be able to understand the rules, skills, tactics and safety involved in playing in a flag football game.

Students will be able to successfully explain and demonstrate the basic skills used in the game of flag football (throwing, catching, punting, route running, defense, etc.)

Students will be able to understand that teamwork is a fundamental skill of flag football.

Students will be able to safely and effectively work together as a team to participate in a flag football game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.

SPEEDBALL:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand that the game of speedball contains many sport-specific skills similar to soccer, football, basketball, and team handball.

  2. Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the basic skills, such as throwing and catching and proper footwork that are used in the game of speedball.

  3. Students will be able to safely and effectively work work in teams to participate in a speedball game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.


HANDBALL:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand that teamwork is a fundamental skill of team handball. As well as to understand that the game of handball contains many sport-specific skills similar to soccer, speedball, hockey, and basketball.

  2. Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the basic skills that are used in the game of speedball, such as throwing, catching and proper footwork.

  3. Students will be able to safely and effectively work work in teams to participate in a handball game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.


VOLLEYBALL:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand that teamwork is a fundamental and necessary skill of volleyball.

  2. Students will be able to understand that the development of better eye-hand coordination is important in the game of volleyball.

  3. Students will be able to explain and demonstrate proper court rotation, as well as the basic volleyball skills such as the serve, bump, set and dig.

  4. Students will be able to safely and effectively work work in teams to participate in a volleyball game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.


FITNESS CIRCUITS:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand that safe and effective execution of fitness activities are important facets of a fitness program.

  2. Students will be able to understand that the major muscle groups and the exercises associated with those groups helps to build strong bodies.

  3. Students will be able to understand that fitness principles of muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, as well as, cardiorespiratory endurance are all part of overall physical health.

  4. Students will be able to successfully explain and demonstrate which muscle groups are being worked, as well as the benefits of the exercise and proper technique for each exercise used in the stations.

DANCE:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand the fundamental skills, terminology and styles of dances used throughout the world.

  2. Students will be able to research, demonstrate and create a dance routine for a specific style of dance, as well as incorporate the appropriate genre of music for their dance.

  3. Students will be able to successfully work collaboratively in small groups to research, create and share their original dances with their class.

  4. Students will demonstrate a positive appreciation for all styles of dance, as well as all dances created by their classmates.


ARCHERY:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand that fundamental skills, terminology, and safety protocols are all important to successfully participate in an archery unit.

  2. Students will be able to explain and demonstrate each of the archer cues used in class. (step up, bow arm, knock your arrow, draw back, anchor, aim, fire, as well as proper arrow removal and retrieval).

  3. Students will be able to safely and effectively work in small groups to participate in the archery unit, while demonstrating self- control, respect and positive behavior.


BASKETBALL:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand the basic skills, game strategy, teamwork, tactics, rules, and safety precautions of the game of Basketball.

  2. Students will be able to perform specific basketball skills, such as dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, setting screens, etc. by using proper form and technique throughout various games and activities.

  3. Students will be able to demonstrate leadership, cooperation, respect and good sportsmanship with their classmates while safely playing within a team environment.

SOFTBALL:

OBJECTIVES:

  1. Students will be able to understand the basic skills, game strategy, teamwork, tactics, rules, and safety practices associated with the game of Softball.

  2. Students will be able to explain and demonstrate each of the skills used in softball (throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, base running, etc.)

  3. Students will be able to work together with their classmates to demonstrate good sportsmanship, self control, fair play and an appreciation of all skill levels while partaking in a class softball game.


ULTIMATE FRISBEE:

  1. Students will be able to understand that the basic skills, game strategy, teamwork, tactics, rules, and safety are necessary to successfully participate in the game of Frisbee.

  2. Students will be able to explain the proper hand positioning for holding the frisbee, as well as demonstrate the correct wrist snap and throwing technique.

  3. Students will be able to safely and successfully participate in a frisbee game with their classmates while demonstrating fair play, respect and self-control.


RECREATION GAMES:

  1. Students will be able to understand the basic skills, game strategy, teamwork, tactics, rules, and safety precautions of various outdoor recreations games.

  2. Students will be able to explain and demonstrate various skills used in the recreation games, such as throwing, catching, hitting, controlled movement, etc.

  3. Students will be able to safely and effectively participate in various individual, partner and team games for the recreation unit. In doing so, students will demonstrate respect for all, good sportsmanship, fair play, honesty, self-control and motivation.


TCHOUKBALL:

1. Students will be able to understand that the game of tchoukball contains many sport- specific skills similar to basketball, team handball and speedball.

2. Students will be able to successfully demonstrate the basic skills, such as throwing, catching, throwing off a re-bounder and proper footwork that are used in the game of tchoukball.

3. Students will be able to safely and effectively work work in teams to participate in a tchoukball game, while demonstrating good sportsmanship, self- control and fair play.
