What is Project '79?
Project ‘79 is an alternative college preparatory program within Westfield High School for students who want school to feel a little different. Project ‘79 combines a strong academic program, with an equally strong humanistic approach to education where the whole student is considered. As students are supported to explore their strengths, they work to better understand themselves as learners and people, which provides opportunities to reach their fullest potential.
Trusted Relationships with Teachers
Project ‘79 supports students who thrive in environments where strong relationships with teachers are prioritized
Students often will have their P’79 teachers more than once throughout their time at WHS
Time Management and Prioritization
Class time is structured for skill development and content mastery
Most if not all work is completed within class time
Students' class time productivity and engagement is key and necessary for success
Smaller, student centered classrooms for frequent check-ins from teacher
Academic Skills and Abilities
Designed for students who are best suited for a college-prep academic environment, ensuring they are appropriately challenged and supported
Students will take their core academic courses through the program depending on what is offered - we offer as many courses as we can each year
Students also take courses outside of the program including graduation requirements, electives, honors and AP courses
Intellectual Curiosity and Investment
The program is ideal for students who are intellectually curious and eager to take an active role in shaping their learning experiences and academic work
The program emphasizes three essential competencies for student growth: self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision-making
