8th Grade Debate: Examining Point of View is an elective for all eighth grade students who have a high interest in acquiring sophisticated techniques in debate and in developing public speaking skills which have been previously introduced in sixth and seventh grade courses. As students learn the varied methods to express points of view, they gain important life skills in writing, persuasive speech, and formal debate. This course draws on a wide range of disciplines including social studies, history, government, English, journalism, and science in an engaging way that connects students to the real world and contemporary issues. Students increase skills needed to communicate points of views. By the conclusion of the course, students are able to research, analyze, organize, develop, and complete a logical, accurate, and well-constructed argument.
