We are thrilled to invite students and families to explore our Summer Reading Website, created to make this summer unforgettable with stories that inspire, educate, and entertain.
The Westfield Language Arts Department has developed a carefully selected list of recommended summer reading texts, as well as engaging podcasts and reading enrichment ideas. Please assist your child in choosing a book that suits his or her interests and maturity level. While reading one of the selected texts is recommended, it is not required this summer.
Reading over the summer is especially important for middle schoolers. It helps maintain and improve literacy skills, prevents the "summer slide"—a decline in academic progress during the break—and nurtures a lifelong love of reading. In addition, reading encourages critical thinking, enhances vocabulary, and broadens horizons by exposing students to new ideas, cultures, and perspectives.
We hope all students find joy and inspiration in reading this summer. Happy Reading!
