Dear 2-C,
Welcome to 2nd grade! I am so excited for this upcoming school year and can't wait to meet all of you. I hope you enjoyed your summer and are looking forward to second grade. I spent my summer with my two daughters. We spent time at the pool, the zoo, the ice skating rink and the beach.
This is my fifthteenth year teaching 2nd grade, and I am thrilled to embark on new adventures in learning with you. My first goals are to foster a growth mindset and strive to build a strong classroom community. I am looking forward to getting to know you and having fun together especially during our morning meetings, energizers and closing circles.
Here are some topics we will cover in 2nd grade:
Reading Units of Study: Print Strategies and Fluency, Story Elements, Character Study, Informational Texts, Folktales, Fairytales and Fables, Poetry, Series Books, Research within Content Areas
Writing Units of Study: Narrative Writing, Realistic Fiction and Folktales, Opinion Writing: Persuasive Letters & Book Reviews, Poetry, Informational Writing: All About Books and Researched Report
Math: Double-Digit Addition and Subtraction, Geometry, Measurement, Introduction to Multiplication
Science & Social Studies: Solids & Liquids, Dinosaurs, Rocks, Plants and Insects, Communities, Map Skills, China and Current Events
FUNdations & Handwriting: phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, sentence structure, grammar skills, print & cursive letters
Please be sure to pack a snack and lunch in separate containers/bags, and bring a water bottle. I cannot wait to meet you on September 7th!
