Bonjour! This is my thirteenth year teaching French in the Westfield District. I am looking forward to sharing my passion and enthusiasm for all things French with my students who are interested in the French language and culture.
Because one of the main goals of French 1 is to build fluency in the French language, almost all communication in class will be done in French!
Class Supply List
You must come to class prepared every day, on time with the following items:
Charged Chromebook (and power chord)
Headphones (hard wired is preferred)
Notebook or Binder with loose leaf paper for notes
Faites Maintenant
Notes
Classwork/Homework
Quizzes/Projects
Pen or pencil (mechanical preferred)
2. Class Requirements
You are required to speak in French in class whenever possible. Refer to your “Expression pour la classe” handout for help, if needed.
No food is permitted in class (including gum). Water is permitted.
You are responsible for ALL work missed during ANY absence. Everything will be posted on Google Classroom and due dates will be enforced.
ALL WORK SUBMITTED MUST BE ORIGINAL - ANY WORK GENERATED BY TRANSLATORS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. You should never write a sentence or paragraph in English and then translate it to French through the use of an online translator or other electronic device.
All rules of Edison Intermediate School apply to this class.
Grades
Each marking period you will complete a number of listening, speaking, reading and writing activities in and out of class, the goal of which is to help you learn to communicate better in French. Your grade is calculated as follows:
Class participation: You will earn a grade for class participation EVERY DAY and a grade for overall preparedness/participation for the marking period.
Classwork/Homework: 5-10 points per assignment. The only way to learn a new process is to practice it; hence, you should expect homework assignments a few times a week. Take your time and do not rush through your assignments. Original work is to be submitted.
Quizzes/Projects: 20-100 points. You should expect frequent quizzes (interrogations), as well as unit projects for major concepts learned in class.
Late and Missing Work Due to Absence
A very important part of what you learn in school is time management. You should finish assignments way before the last minute. Each day an assignment is late, .5 points will be deducted.
If you are absent, check Google Classroom to see what assignments or notes you may have missed. You can also email me to see what you will need to make up. My email is bsapichino@westfieldnjk12.org
You have the number of days absent to make up any work including tests and quizzes.
