Achieve is an academic support system for those students needing assistance in reading, writing, and math. The students who qualify for services are those students whose scores have fallen below the proficiency cutoff on state and/or district assessments. Teacher recommendation and a screening process takes place before a student is offered Achieve support. A specified amount of time for support for each subject has been established according to grade level.
The Achieve program has moved towards a push-in/in-class support model, where the Achieve teacher comes into the classroom for instruction during the subject the students may need some support. For those students receiving pull out support, classes in a particular discipline are scheduled around direct instruction, as well as special subjects.
The Achieve teacher is in constant contact with the classroom teacher giving updates on student progress and direction with instruction. Progress in the classroom is monitored to determine if support continues to be necessary or if new students might benefit from some support. Achieve teachers are available for parent conferences, and each marking period, a progress report is sent home at the same time the classroom report cards are available on-line.
