Take a stroll along our Instructional Model to experience the routines that drive our phenomenon-based, 3D curriculum materials. See how these routines ignite curiosity and inspire discussion in the science classroom.
A monthly newsletter will be sent to keep parents and guardians informed about what their child is learning in class! Please be on the lookout for an email from me during the first week of school. If you did not receive one, please check your spam folder and then send me an email to be added to the list.
Google Classroom sends out guardian summaries weekly or daily. This is useful for seeing which assignments your child has coming up in Google Classroom, any assignments that are missing, and grades that have been assigned. If this is something you have been receiving throughout elementary school, you will continue to receive them during middle school. I have been adding guardian emails to student accounts and should have all of them added by the end of the first full week of school. If you have not received an invite to receive Google Classroom summaries, please send me an email and I will send the link again. An example summary is shown below:
Genesis is a great way for you and your child to stay on top of their assignments and the grades they are earning for their classes. 6th graders now have access to their own Genesis account, so they should no longer be using your parent account to access their classes and grades. Student usernames are the same as their Westfield log ins (with the @westfieldnjk12.org at the end) and passwords. Please have your child bookmark this site and get used to using their own log in to keep track of their grades through their account. Students should not be using parent Genesis accounts anymore.
Grading is based on a point system where the points earned each marking period are divided by the total points they could have earned during the marking period. This gives them a percentage that is translated to a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F). Should your child have questions about their grades, please have them come see me after school.
